About
I'm originally from Jacksonville, NC, so I have respect for the military personnel and appreciation for our beaches. I graduated from Appalachian State, loving the trees and mountains. I participated in programs such as America-Corps, the Appelli Language Institute, and the Teaching Fellows. I earned a certificate from East Carolina's Adult Education Masters program to instruct at the community college level. I am currently in graduate school online at Western New Mexico University for Social Work. In thirteen years, I have taught ages 11 to 65! I've taught from Greece to Durham. The classroom is a second home where I feel a sense of belonging with books and the spirit of learning.
I enjoy photography, nature, my dogs, reading fantasy & memoir in my non-existent free time, wood crafting, and attending cultural events from rock concerts at PNC to intimate shows at the Theater in the Park. I love to travel and experience the values, nuances, food, music, and people in other cultures.
Joining the team at Athens Drive is a dream come true. The campus has the diversity of a city with the heart of a community. The focus on global health in the magnet theme is relevant to my desire to improve justice for the disadvantaged populations. The service project and research in the STEM cohort is inspiring because it fulfills my own purpose to help create change in our society.
